The red dirt has settled on a historic milestone for us. This was our first-ever open camp held in May, and it certainly did not disappoint!

We welcomed a high-energy group of 6 runners to the “Home of Champions”. While they all set off on their journeys individually, they quickly formed a tight-knit running community. It was the perfect reminder that you may arrive in Iten solo, but you always leave as part of a global family.

May Camp at a Glance

  • Dates: May 24th to June 6th, 2026.
  • The Location: High Altitude Training Centre (HATC), Iten, Kenya.
  • The Tribe: 6 energetic runners representing 5 different countries: Malaysia, USA, Lebanon, Italy, and the UK.
  • The Demographics: A dynamic group with ages ranging from 24 to 42.
  • Solo Power: 100% of the group traveled solo!

Unforgettable Moments

The Iten Training

Under the expert guidance of Coach Richard Mukche, the group truly took their training to the next level:

  • Endurance: Tackling the notorious, rolling red hills of Moiben Road.
  • Technique: Mastering running drills to perfect biomechanics and form.
  • Intensity: Jumping directly into the world-famous, high-octane Thursday Boston Fartlek.

Exclusive Access & Heritage

  • Coaches’ Corner & Athlete Talks: The team soaked up invaluable wisdom during interactive coaching talks with Richard Mukche and David Marus (Volare Sports coach), alongside an inspiring athlete Q&A session with Evans Kipkoech.
  • Cultural Heritage: The group toured the historic St. Patrick’s High School and learned deeply about the Kenyan way of life from our Head of Guest Relations, Willy Songok.
  • Community Connection: We spent meaningful time learning about the incredible community work GEF has been doing to support the local area.
