The Red Dirt Reset: Two Back-to-Back Camps, One Unforgettable Month

March in Iten was something truly special. This month, we hosted two back-to-back camps, giving our runners the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the “Home of Champions” for anywhere from one to four weeks.

The air was thin, the trails were dusty, and the progress was undeniable. Whether guests were here for a one-week ‘running reset’ or a full month of high-altitude training, the March 2026 cohort brought incredible energy to the Rift Valley.

Camp at a Glance

The Format: Two back-to-back camps with 1, 2, and 4-week stay options.
The Tribe: 21 guests representing 11 countries, spanning from Australia to Ireland and everywhere in between.
The Diversity: A powerful mix of experience with ages ranging from 18 to 63.
Solo Travellers: 90% of our guests arrived solo, once again proving that the best way to find your running community is to fly to Kenya.

Unforgettable Moments

  • The Iten Trail Race: We kicked off week one with a literal mountain to climb. Several guests, our pacers, and our very own Willy Songok tackled this brutal course—featuring a massive 1000m of elevation gain over 26km—finishing right in the heart of Iten town.
  • Moiben Road Mastery: We logged the long miles and hard sessions on the iconic Moiben Road, building the kind of endurance you can only find at 2,400m.
  • Forest & Form: We went deep into the local forests for recovery runs and spent dedicated time on the track, perfecting running drills and biomechanics.
  • The Thursday Fartlek: No trip to Iten is complete without joining the local hundreds-strong pack for the legendary fartlek session.

Community Spotlight: Heart Safety in the Home of Champions

A huge shout-out and heartfelt thank you to the team at Phenix Heart, who joined our March camp. Beyond the miles on the road, they left a lasting legacy by donating a defibrillator to the people of Iten which will be housed at the High Altitude Training Centre (HATC).

While on camp, the Phenix Heart team went above and beyond by leading hands-on training sessions for local coaches, Kenya Experience and HATC staff. This vital CPR and AED training helps make the ‘Home of Champions’ a safer place for local and international athletes. We are incredibly proud to have guests who give back to the community that hosts us so warmly.

Loved my time here.

Taking part in the Kenya Experience was a wonderful experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.
The staff is capable, helpful and reliable, and the facilities are great, complete and clean. Food is good.
I miss it already and would like to return.

I spent 4 weeks with Kenya Experience (KE) in Iten. It was a unique experience. Besides a very well thought through program, KE went out of their way to accommodate for any and all special requests. I’ve heard many guests saying they will come back, and the same is true for me too.
