A new running camp from the Kenya Experience 

Training Focus Weeks gives runners of all abilities the opportunity to live and train the Kenyan way. Experience the life of an elite athlete and receive world class coaching in Iten, Kenya’s Home of Champions.

New for 2019, with Training Focus Weeks you can prepare for your next big race in Iten with 2 and 3 week options. Join a supportive group environment under the guidance of our expert coaching and support team and take your running to the next level.

 

How is this different from the Kenya Experience Original camps?

Training Focus Weeks have been developed for runners of all levels who want to spend time in Iten becoming better runners under the guidance of experts. We have stripped back the ‘experience’ side from our original camps to create more time and opportunity to focus on you and your running. That means less trips, visits and scheduled activities for cultural and community immersion and more time to focus on coach led training sessions and quality resting between hard workouts.

You will be treated like a professional athlete and given the ultimate training opportunity amongst a group of likeminded runners in a supportive, relaxed and friendly environment.

Training Focus Weeks will be lead by the same team of experts who have been organising Kenya Experience original camps since 2010.

Who will I be coached by?

Both 2019 Training Focus Week camps will be lead by Kenya Experience Head Coach Hugo van den Broek. Hugo van den Broek is a 2.12 marathon runner turned coach of international repute. Hugo will be assisted by Collins Kibet and other guest coaches who will work with you on their particular specialities such as strength and conditioning & injury prevention.

Head of Guest Relations Willy Songok will be present throughout the camp to ensure that all training sessions and logistics run smoothly. He will make your stay as easy and simple as possible. Songok is essentially your ‘athlete manager’ during the stay and will do all the hard work and logistics behind the scenes to ensure that you need only focus on your training and enjoying your time in Iten.

 

Who is it suited to?

  • Runners of all abilities
  • Those who want to train in Iten, in a group environment, but want to focus on their running rather than the cultural and social interactions which are a mainstay of our original camps
  • Those who have previously attended the Kenya Experience original and want to return for a more running specific experience but still want the quality assurance and organisational excellence you get with Kenya Experience

Dates 2019

March – April

Training Focus Camp

Arrival: 17th March
Departure: 30th March (2weeks) or 6th April (3weeks)

2 Weeks: £1200/pp
3 Weeks: £1800/pp

The dates have been set to offer the perfect opportunity for those training for the spring marathon season. It is not however exclusively a marathon camp. The camp will be perfectly suited to those training for any distance running events.

All runners should aim to arrive on the first day of the camp and then select either a 2 or 3 week stay.

August – September

Training Focus Camp

Arrival: 18th August
Departure 31st August (2weeks) or 7th September (3weeks)

2 Weeks: £1200/pp
3 Weeks: £1800/pp

The dates have been set to offer the perfect opportunity for those training for the autumn marathon season. It is not however exclusively a marathon camp. The camp will be perfectly suited to those training for any distance running events.

All runners should aim to arrive on the first day of the camp and then select either a 2 or 3 week stay.

What’s Included:

  • Full Board Accommodation at the High Altitude Training Centre (Twin Room Accommodation)
  • Return Transfers from Eldoret Airport
  • Fully Coached and Guided Running Camp
  • Local pace runners/guides
  • All local transport to training venues
  • Full Financial Protection and Insurance
  • Full Pre Camp Customer Service & help from UK based office staff including comprehensive Pre Camp Information packs with everything you need to prepare for a running camp in Iten

What’s Not Included:

  • International and local flights. Our team are here to help and advise as much as required but you are responsible for your travel as far as Eldoret Airport where we will meet you on arrival.
  • Visa for entry into Kenya
  • Personal Insurance
  • Drinking water for use between meal times (available very cheaply locally)
  • Purchases of a personal nature

Optional Extras:

  • Massage therapists will be available on site throughout the camps.
  • Lake Nakuru Safari: We will organise a 1 day Safari to Lake Nakuru during week 2 of the camp. Whilst this is a training focused camp, you may not want to miss out on the fantastic opportunity to see some of Kenya’s magnificent wildlife and our day trip Safari will coincide with a rest day from running on the camp.
